File Server
With the basic $5 per month contract you get 25 GB of storage. It’s really easy to set up file hosting, an alternative to Google Drive and Dropbox that you control. NextCloud is a great way to replace Dropbox, and many other services as well.
It’s a real computer
Install a graphical interface on your Droplet and do work there as if you were at a real desktop. Check out x2go project. There really isn’t a limit. DigitalOcean offers a range of powerful options which will put your home laptop to shame.
Learn Cloud Computing
Loads of computing is going online. Learn JavaScript or PHP using your own server, ssh and all those Linux Sysadmin, Bash, Java and C++, or Python and Machine Learning. The possibilities are limitless.
